Sherman Travel Guide
Welcome to Sherman!
Sherman was once a wild and lawless frontier town that was once dubbed Helldorado, but this city, located north of the Dallas and Fort Worth near the Oklahoma border, has become a leading industrial center for Texas. Plenty of recreational opportunities are in the area, including nearby Lake Texoma, one of the largest lakes in Texas. Popular for fishing and swimming and large enough for sailing, the lake welcomes an estimated five million people each year. Sherman and its surrounding area is known for nature and wildlife watching, especially in the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge, where many species of migratory birds pass through. Live music shows are common in Sherman at the Main Street Showcase, which regularly features country, gospel and jazz performers. Visitors can also enjoy the annual Sherman Arts Festival, which takes place each September and includes a judged art show and sale, a pancake breakfast, a fun run, food, museum tours and much more.
